This marks the start of the new license season for Montana, don't forget to renew your fishing license. Some waters close to fishing until the third Saturday in May, check the regulations. Nothing has changed around here from last year. The Madison is open between the lakes and from Macatee to Ennis. The Gallatin is open outside the park. Montana- General opener is third Saturday in May. This year it is May 20, 2006

River-Open to fishing between Hebgen and Quake lakes, also open to fishing from Macatee bridge to Ennis bridge. Small nymphs like pheasant tails, copper johns, and black midge larva in sizes 16 and 18 will be best. If it is not windy look for midges in the afternoons.

River-Best below Big Sky as most of the upper river from taylors
fork to Big Sky is frozen over. There is a short stretch from the park line to taylors fork that is open and fishable. Small nymphs and midges in the afternoons. Griffiths gnats and adams will take the rising fish. Bead heads in sizes 18 will be good in the runs.

Yellowstone Park

Yellowstone Park-General opener is Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and this year it is May 27, 2006. Yellowstone Lake June 15 and the Yellowstone River is July 15.
