Yellowstone National Park officially opened it's angling season this past Saturday to mixed reviews on the Firehole River with fragmented and sparse hatches of PMD's and caddis. Hatches will become much more reliable in the next two weeks and with our current snowpack the Firehole will fish well into mid July possibly. Henry's Lake also fished extremely well on Saturday despite record crowds, with five to seven pound fish very common. Idaho also has a heavy snowpack this year which bodes well for both the Henry's Fork and Henry's Lake. Expect another banner year on Henry's Lake, fishing well into the fall again. The Madison River directly below the dam is closed due to Montana PPL continuing repairs but the river is clear to Cabin Creek which is now dumping lots of mud. If fishing this stretch, keep an eye out to avoid stepping on redds as there are lots of Rainbows spawning in this stretch now.
