The weather forecast for the coming week predicts snow over the weekend, perfect conditions for BWO's 18 to 22s on the Firehole. The Firehole is really coming into shape nicely with more caddis than PMD's hatching, and the rainbows and browns are paying attention. Expect hatches to improve greatly in the next several weeks. Soft hackles are still the top producer but small bugger patterns are also very effective. Arricks Foam Tan Caddis is an excellent pattern to match the White Miller hatch that has been growing each week. The Madison in Yellowstone Park is dropping and clearing but is still more nymphing than dries, but caddis are now starting with few PMD's too. Working slower deeper pools and runs could still yield a nice fall run hold over bow or brown. Midges have hatching on Hebgen Lake in such large numbers that it has been difficult to compete with them, but using a large streamer can break the midging trout's concentration. This technique is more effective as midge hatches dwindle and has accounted for numbers of fish at times. The Madison River below Quake Lake is still quite murky with less tham a foot but fishing has been surprisingly quite good. It's strictly nymphing with flashy nymphs and SJW's as the best droppers behind a Sili Stone or Prince nymph.
