Guided Fly Fishing Trips -What to Know Before You Go

West Yellowstone offers a variety of lodging and dining options in a wide range of prices. Contact the West Yellowstone Chamber of Commerce at (406) 646-7701 for more information. For links to these sites click

Climate and Clothing
Our high altitude and surrounding mountains make for beautiful, but often unpredictable weather. Cold nights are often paired with hot days. It can rain or snow on any day of the year. Prepare accordingly with a variety of clothing, a raincoat, and a sun hat. For fishing polarized sunglasses and sunblock are essential.

Fishing Tackle
While our rivers and lakes are truly unique, the gear needed for fishing them is not. Fly rods in the 8' to 9' range matched with a 5 or 6 wt. line are ideal for most situations. Contact us for fly suggestions, or we can set you up with the hot patterns when you get here. Felt soled waders, camers, and standard sized leaders and tippets round out the package.

Other Things To Do
If the rest of the family is not into fishing, they might enjoy a scenic tour of Yellowstone National Park. Contact Yellowstone Alpen Guides for more information. .
